Tucked between towns like Katpadi and Gudiyatham in Vellore district, Kilvaithinankuppam, commonly known as KV Kuppam, became a reserved assembly constituency for Scheduled Castes (SC) after the bifurcation of the two major towns in a delimitation exercise conducted in 2008.
The assembly segment, a predominantly agrarian society, is dotted with large tracts of mango and coconut groves. Due to its close proximity to neighboring Andhra Pradesh, where private fruit pulp factories are located, farmers grow at least two crop seasons every year. “The area has received sufficient rains during the monsoon for the past few years, which has helped improve the water table in the area. The crop yield is also good,” said farmer MG Kasi.
