More than 10,000 students from government schools across Chennai are participating in the cleanliness campaign

Winners of various competitions held as part of the 14-day campaign at a government school in Ashok Nagar on Wednesday.

Over 10,000 students from government schools across the city participated in the grand finale of Swachhta Pakhwada, a cleanliness and reading campaign jointly organized by The Hindu In School and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), on Wednesday.

Held at the Government Girls High School in Ashok Nagar, the event was the culmination of a fortnight-long campaign organized in 50 government schools in the city.

Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kabeer emphasized collaborative learning through activities such as essay writing and drawing competitions that encourage students to explore libraries and deepen their knowledge.

Vasuki, principal of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Ashok Nagar, emphasized the importance of maintaining personal cleanliness and discipline and segregation of waste. She also encouraged students to conserve water and electricity.

Ajith, representative of BPCL, engaged the students in an interactive question and answer session and encouraged them to become ambassadors of cleanliness. He asked the students to identify the cleanest country in the world and the cleanest city in India.

Prabhu Dass, Personal Assistant to the CEO, spoke about the role of The Hindu In School and explained how a dedicated team of professionals work behind the scenes to create educational content, print newspapers and deliver them to schools. The event reinforced the importance of cleanliness, reading, discipline, environmental responsibility and active student participation. Prizes were awarded to the winners of the essay writing and drawing competitions.
