Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump share a special bond, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said in Manipur on Friday (September 11, 2026).

India is scheduled to host the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12-13. It is expected to be attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other heads of state from member and partner countries.

“The bond between Mr. Modi and Mr. Trump goes beyond the normal prime minister-president relationship,” the ambassador told Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in Imphal, insisting that Mr. Trump was fine with the relationship.

Mr Gore also said he was glad the Prime Minister was focusing on developing the North-East region, “which is good for a country as diverse as India”.

The Chief Minister has invited the US Ambassador to the upcoming Manipur Sangai festival. “India is a mini-world and Manipur, a mini-India, is home to 36 communities,” Mr. Singh said.

He also highlighted tourism and other allied industries as potential areas of development in Manipur.
