Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (July 4, 2026) greeted President Donald Trump and the people of the United States on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of America’s independence, saying the two countries share a belief in democracy and the rule of law, and the unlimited potential of their people makes the friendship a force for global good.

India and the United States share more than just a strategic partnership, Mr. Modi said.

“On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, I heartily congratulate President Trump and the people of the United States on the historic 250th anniversary of your independence,” Mr. Modi said in a post on the X social media platform.

Mr. Modi spoke of India’s and the US’s shared belief in democracy and the rule of law and the unlimited potential of “our people making our friendship a force for global good.”

“May the next 250 years bring even greater prosperity, peace and progress to America and take the India-US partnership to new heights,” he said.

Mr Trump launched the 250th anniversary of American independence on Friday (July 3, 2026).

The signing of the Declaration of Independence, one of the most famous expressions of democratic ambition in history, is marked in countless ways.

Mr Trump, who is set to take center stage at the festivities, plans to speak on the National Mall in Washington ahead of what is being billed as the biggest fireworks display in history to rain down on the US capital.
