It was a cloudy but dry day at many places in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, though some others, most of them in north Andhra region, received light to moderate showers under the influence of a well-appreciated low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal.
According to real-time information available with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Pappala Lingalavalasa in Vizianagaram district recorded 36.5 mm of rainfall at 4 pm on Saturday; followed by Salur (35.5 mm), Seethanagaram (30.8 mm), Makkuva (26.25 mm) and Purohitunivalasa (26 mm), all in Parvathipuram-Manyam district; Puligummi in Vizianagaram (24 mm) and G. Sigadam in Srikakulam district (23 mm).
All other stations in Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram-Manyam districts recorded less than 20 mm of rain. Daytime temperatures hovered around 36 degrees Celsius across the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light showers are likely at several places in the coastal areas of the state till July 9. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40 km/h to 50 km/h are also expected in one or two places in the area.
Meanwhile, Rayalaseema may remain dry till July 9, with light showers predicted at one or two places in the region. However, strong winds may prevail in Rayalaseema as well. Sunday, July 5, may also remain cloudy over most of the state.
The weather in the state is influenced by a cyclonic circulation associated with a depression which is very likely to move west-northwest over North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh during the next three days. A seasonal trough also runs from Rajasthan to the center of the low pressure area.
