Mini AC buses announced for all metro stations

Air-conditioned (AC) minibuses will be deployed to areas within a radius of 5 km from all metro stations.

Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh made the announcement after a meeting with senior officials of the Transport Ministry, KSRTC and BMTC at Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday.

The report said that of the 4,500 electric buses provided by BMTC under the central government’s PM E-DRIVE scheme, the minister directed that 200 mini air-conditioned (AC) buses be used to provide connectivity within 5 km of all metro stations.

The buses will connect residential areas in the farthest parts of the city with metro stations, making travel easier for Bengaluru residents, he added.

The minister also said that BMTC will provide more air-conditioned buses to IT and BT companies in Bengaluru to reduce the use of private vehicles by their employees. He said officials have been deputed to hold discussions with the companies in this regard.

He also announced that ‘Namma BMTC Mobile App 2.0’ will be made available to commercial passenger vehicles operated through apps like Ola, Uber and others. With this, passengers traveling in Ola and Uber vehicles will be able to easily get information about BMTC buses plying to their alighting destinations, the report said.

The report also said he has issued instructions to officials to take necessary measures to prevent revenue leakage in government transport corporations, including BMTC, and has given clear instructions to curb unnecessary expenditure.
