Meta’s latest email to staff: ‘Your role has been removed, collect all personal belongings and go home’ | Today’s news
A day after Meta laid off thousands of its employees as part of its restructuring program to refocus on its AI agenda, a final email from the company’s management to the laid-off employees has been leaked, giving everyone who worked at the company a glimpse into the finale.
The email, obtained by Business Insider, began with what had been known for several months — a downsizing — and then came the hit: “Unfortunately, your role has been eliminated as part of today’s reorganization.”
Staff who have now been given “out-of-hours notice” have been told they will lose access to the system, but can subsequently log into the alumni portal. They were also given an official termination date by which they were not required to do any work for the Met.
Under the restructuring, redundant employees would receive 16 weeks’ severance pay plus two weeks for each year of completed service, less notice. As part of the severance package, Meta also extended the health insurance premiums for dismissed employees and their families for 18 months.
For immigrants, Meta said it will provide guidance to help resolve their questions.
LAST EMAIL META FOR RELEASED EMPLOYEES
As previously stated, we have decided to reduce the number of employees as part of our ongoing efforts to run the company more efficiently and to compensate for the additional investments we are making. Unfortunately, your role has been canceled as part of today’s reorganization. Before sharing more details, we want to thank you for everything you’ve contributed to Meta. We appreciate the important role you have played in the company’s journey.

We understand that you will have questions as you process this report. Please read below to learn more. We also encourage you to review the Alumni Portal (Meta.com/alumni), which you can access within an hour of losing access to the system for additional information and resources to help you. More information about the Alumni Portal can be found below.
Non-working notice period
From today until (redacted) (your “Termination Date”) you are on a “non-working notice period”. During this time, your internal access will be removed and you do not need to do any further work for Meta.
You will continue to accrue PTO until the termination date and your remaining PTO will be paid in your last paycheck at the end of that period. During the notice period, you will be paid “Notice Pay”, which you will see on your pay slips and is equal to your wages.
Leave (if applicable): Your employment will end on the termination date communicated to you. Any leave will end on the date you terminate. Please note that you may continue to receive disability benefits to the extent applicable after your date of separation if your disability meets the requirements of the disability plan.

Your benefits and compensation will continue until the termination date.
You will continue to receive your full salary and benefits until the date of termination, as well as any grants of RSUs that were awarded on or before the date of termination as set forth in the Equity Incentive Plan. To support you in your job search, you will also have access to three months of free external job search assistance through Lee Hecht Harrison (“LHH”), as detailed in the attached LHH Outplacement Services leaflet.
Severance pay details
Attached is a non-signable version of the split agreement with full details of your individual package (do not sign this version). A signed split agreement with full details of your individual package will be sent to your personal email address later today. In order to receive your severance payment, you must sign a separation agreement.
If you do not receive an electronically signed split agreement in your personal email by the end of the day tomorrow, please check your spam folder. If you still haven’t received the contract, please submit your case through the Alumni Portal. (Note: If you apply for and accept another position at Meta no later than one week prior to the termination date, you will remain an employee of Meta and therefore this Severance Agreement will be void and you will not be entitled to severance pay under the terms of the Severance Plan.)

As a full-time employee (FTE), you are entitled to the following redundancy offer:
Severance pay of 16 weeks plus two weeks for each year of completed service, minus your notice period. Please see the attached separation agreement cover sheet for more details on this calculation.
COBRA (health insurance) premium payment for you and your family (if they are dependents on your current plan) for 18 months.
Immigration (if any)
We know this is particularly difficult for those whose visa and work permit is sponsored by Meta. The Alumni Portal contains general immigration guidance to help you resolve your immediate questions. The instructions also include contact information for your assigned law firm. You can also open a case through the Alumni Portal if you have specific questions about your case.
System access and office information
Because you entered paid non-work notice, your badge has been deactivated and your access to internal Meta systems will be removed this morning. If you are already in the office, we ask that you collect all personal belongings at your desk and go home. If you have personal items that need to be retrieved, instructions are available on the Alumni Portal.
Getting more information
We know it’s a lot to process, so we’ve put together resources for you on the Graduate Portal about salary, benefits and more. You can access the Alumni Portal within an hour of losing access to the system today as indicated above. To access the site you will need your employee ID which is listed at the top of this email.
Finally we want to say thank you again for your posts. Your influence on Meta was an important part of our story.
