The Muslim Education Society (MES) plans to focus more on the health sector in the state. Its officials told the media here on Thursday (May 7, 2026) that efforts are on to set up new hospitals in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha.
MES already has a medical college at Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district. Hameed Fazal Gafoor, Kozhikode District Secretary, MES, said it was a challenging time for the health sector in the state. Medical costs were rising and many private hospitals were losing their local face due to their acquisition by foreign joint-stock companies. MES, which runs a chain of educational institutions across the state, planned to provide affordable healthcare by investing in the sector. There are plans to launch large and small hospitals offering different types of treatment.
Dr. Gafoor, who is also part of MES Medical College, said the new government in Kerala will have to seriously focus on the crisis facing the healthcare sector. If the issues plaguing projects like Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi and Medisep are not resolved, private hospitals could pull out of them, he added.
