
The main step to maintain and promote medicinal plants in Kerala with a government, which approves a proposal to establish a nursery for medicinal plants in the Ayurveda International Research Center in Kannur. The center, which is currently under construction under the Ministry of Medical Education Ayurveda, will present 12 acres of its area of 200 acres for kindergarten.
According to officials, the project for the first year was sanctioned initial expenditure of 62.6 GBP from 1.5 crore assigned to research activities in the financial year 2025-26. The aim of this initiative, which is to be implemented by the State Council for Medicinal Plants, is to supply high -quality planting for farmers, researchers and the public and at the same time maintain valuable species and act as a training center for kindergartens.
The project has three key components: organic vermicompost unit, unit for collecting germ plasms medicinal plants and kindergarten. The kindergarten infrastructure will include a pump house, storage and watering shelters, spread, greenhouse, shadow house and a claiming house. The project will also be integrated into rain harvest. The long -term goal is to produce 10 lacquer seedlings under five years with annual production of 2 Lakhy seedlings.
Officials said this project would benefit farmers and the wider public in the districts of Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kasaragod. In addition to strengthening cultivation based on Ayurveda, the initiative will create direct and indirect job opportunities for local people. Farmers are expected to earn further income in the cultivation of medicinal plants and help build a sustainable ecosystem for industries related to Ayurvedou in the region.
The project is part of the government’s wider vision to build Kannur’s International Ayurveda Research Center as a key center for scientific progress in Ayurveda, while supporting traditional knowledge systems in accordance with modern research.
