Medical hostels under food safety scanner
Food safety officials inspected 34 canteens and kitchens operating in government and private hostels of medical colleges in Karnataka on August 27 and issued notices to five establishments for deficiencies found during inspections.
In one canteen, officials found labeling violations and seized 7 kg of expired rava and eight liters of expired milk stored in the kitchen.
In a statement by the Ministry of Food Safety and Medicines, legal proceedings have been initiated against the concerned food business operator under the applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and Rules.
The operator will be submitted for further proceedings to the next deputy commissioner, who is the decision-making body, he said.
The inspections are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to inspect food safety and hygiene in establishments serving food to students.
