Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting minor in Chikkamagaluru

A Chikkamagaluru court on Monday (June 15) convicted a man of sexually assaulting a minor and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, besides a fine of ₹25,000.
Kalasa police registered a case against Anil Poojari (30) in November 2024 on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. MG Balaji Singh, deputy superintendent of police, Koppa sub-division, conducted an investigation and filed a FIR.
Additional District and Sessions Judge and FTSC-1 pronounced the sentence. The court also ordered compensation of ₹4,000 to the victim under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme. Special Public Prosecutor B. Bharath Kumar represented the prosecution, a press release said.
