Acting on credible information, the Commissionerate Task Force (North Zone) along with the market police on Saturday (December 13) arrested a man for allegedly manufacturing and selling adulterated ghee in Secunderabad’s Second Bazar area.
The accused Annamali Sainathan (68) was taken into custody during a raid at his residence. Police said he used to run a tiffin center near Monda market and turned to illegal activities after shutting down the business due to financial difficulties.
Investigators said the accused prepared fake ghee at his residence by mixing vegetable oils including coconut oil, palm oil and vegetable oil along with food coloring and sold it as cow ghee. The product was packaged in one-litre poly-packs and supplied to local markets and pooja shops at ₹600 per kilogram, falsely claiming to be genuine.
The police seized about 200 kg of adulterated ghee, a weighing machine, a packaging machine, packaging and a mobile phone, all worth about ₹1.5 million. Officials said the activity poses a risk to public health and is defrauding consumers for illegal profit. Legal action is initiated under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
