Man arrested with 39,000 packets of banned tobacco products in Keralam’s Thrissur

Revenue officials arrested a 50-year-old man after they seized 39,000 packets of banned tobacco products from his premises in Kothakulam, Valapad.

The arrested person has been identified as Jaleel of Kothakulam, Valapad.

The seizure was made during a search by the Excise team at his house based on a tip-off received by CD Kaladas, Excise Inspector of Thrissur Intelligence. The contraband was stored in 52 bags in the back of a van parked on the grounds of the house.

The raid was carried out as part of a special enforcement operation, Operation Toofan. According to the Excise Department, the tobacco products were stockpiled for distribution to school students and retailers.

The Valapad police have registered charges under various provisions of the law. He is allegedly accused in 11 criminal cases.
