Collector Tiruvannamalai K. Tharpagaraj saw the construction of free homes for Sri Lankan Tamils in the village of Zdlavanpalayam near Tiruvannamai on Thursday.
The Chief Minister of MK Stalin will soon start 252 houses built for Sri Lankan Tamils living in rehabilitation camps in Tiruvannamea. Officials of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) are currently completing these new houses.
Drda officials said that Sri Lankan Tamils have lived in dilapidated houses with one room with a bare minimum facility since the camps were established at the beginning of the 90s. The new houses are ready for those families living in camps in the villages of Sorakolathur and then PACIPET in the Thurinjapuram block. “There are currently painting in new houses for Sri Lankan Tamils. The work will be completed within one week,” said S. ARUNA, auxiliary engineer in the block development office, Thurinjapuram.
On Thursday, the collector K. Tharpagaraj together with Tiruvannamai Bdo M. Prithiviraj checked the construction of free homes in the village of Zdlavanpalayam near Tiruvannamalai. For Sri Lankan Tamil families living in camps in the villages of Athiyandal and Kannandampoondi is being built around 140 houses. The construction of most of the houses in Zallavanpalayam will be completed in three months.
“The new house is for us as a dream, because for all the years we have lived in a cramped house with poor equipment. The new house will provide safe accommodation for our children,” said R. Pandiammal, resident.
Drda officials said that from a total of 941 houses sanctioned behind Sri Lankan Tamils in the district, 694 houses are working, of which 140 are houses in Zalavanpaayam. Each house will stand on average 8.10 Lakh for the Treasury. Every house with 291 square feet will have a living room, bedroom, attached toilet and kitchen. The new house will have free water connection and power. In addition, the camp will also be built through the tank on the head (OHTS).
The camp with new houses will also receive a community center, a joint center for children and a fair price. The approach roads to the Tábor area from the main road will also reappear. The main areas in Tiruvannamea, where work for free houses was occupied, includes Polur (280 houses), Kalasapakkam (160 houses), Tiruvannamalai (136 houses), Arani (111 houses) and Cheyyar (80 houses).
