Mahua Moitra, Kirti Azad say they want to join ‘Cockroach Janta Party’, get witty reply: ‘Winning the 1983 World Cup is…’ | Today’s news
Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad have expressed their willingness to join the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’, an unofficial, satirical online political front formed on the basis of alleged ‘parasitic’ remarks made by Chief Justice Surya Kant during a court hearing last week.
In a post on X, TMC leader Kirti Azad asked, “I would like to join cockroach janta party. What are the required qualifications?”
“Party” posted a funny response to Azad’s question on social media: “Winning the 1983 World Cup is a good enough qualification. 😎”
In the comments section, Mahua Moitra said that she also wants to join the party. “I too would like to join the CJP (besides being a member of the Anti-National Party),” she wrote.
The CJP he replied, “Those who rig elections and spread general hatred are the real anti-nationals. You are the fighter democracy needs @MahuaMoitra. Welcome to CJP!”
What is Cockroach Janta Party?
Cockroach Janta Party, which was started as a criticism of CJI Surya Kant’s ‘young as cockroaches’ remarks, has become a ‘movement’ on social media. He presents himself as “the voice of the lazy and unemployed” and has sparked intense discussion among netizens.
“They are young like cockroaches who don’t get any job and have no place in the profession. Some of them become media, some become social media, some of them become RTI activists, some of them become other activists and start attacking everyone…,” CJI Surya Kant said according to Live Law on May 15.
The Chief Justice of India later claimed that a section of the media had “misquoted” his “oral observations”.
He explains his “mission” on his website ‘Party of Cockroaches Janta’. It says the mission is “to create a party for young people who are constantly labeled lazy, chronically online, and—most recently—cockroaches. That’s it. That’s the mission. The rest is satire.”
Barely two days old, Cockroach Janta Party already has 40,000 members, “over 13,000 cockroaches on Instagram” and “over 10,000 cockroaches on Twitter” in just 24 hours.
The CJP also released a “five-point program for 2029”.
“With growing support for the CJP, we are fully aware that attempts will be made to tear us down and portray us as anti-social elements. We want to make it absolutely clear that the CJP firmly believes in the Constitution of India and will always work to protect its values,” it said on social media.
