Mahua Moitra claims egg, ‘sickness’ chants at Nadia protest: ‘These are BJP workers, not common people’ | Today’s news

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday alleged that BJP workers threw eggs at her and raised slogans during a protest outside the party headquarters of MLA Alifa Ahmed in West Bengal’s Nadia district.

According to Moitra, the incident took place at Palashi in Kaliganj, where she had gone to attend a meeting of the Trinamool Congress at Ahmed’s residence.

She later shared a video of the incident on social media and claimed that the protest was organized by BJP workers. However, PTI said it could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Protesters raised slogans of “Come back”.

According to PTI, a group of protesters gathered outside the MLA’s residence while Moitra was attending the meeting.

Demonstrators reportedly shouted slogans like “go back”, raised slogans like “chor” (thief) and threw eggs during the demonstration.

Moitra claimed that the incident reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

“After the change of government in the state, law and order has broken down. The police administration is a mute spectator. BJP is now planning to attack me. These are not common people, they are BJP workers,” she alleged.

The police dispersed the protesters

A senior police officer in Nadia district said police personnel along with central security forces reached the spot soon after the protest started.

According to the officer, the protesters were dispersed after security personnel spoke to them.

No further details were immediately available on whether any complaints had been filed or if anyone had been arrested following the incident.

Video shared on social media

After the protest, Moitra posted a video on social media claiming that BJP workers were behind the demonstration.

However, PTI said it could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

The BJP did not immediately respond to Moitra’s allegations.

The second such incident in less than a month

The latest episode comes weeks after another alleged confrontation involving a TMC MP.

On June 13, BJP Mahila Morcha workers gathered outside the Krishnanagar District Court where Moitra was scheduled to appear in connection with the case. They allegedly tried to throw eggs at her during this protest.

In response to the June 13 incident, Moitra said:

“I will take action against each of them. I will go to the police station. If the police are not with us, I will move the High Court. If necessary, I will approach the Supreme Court.”

Wednesday’s incident is the second time in less than a month that Moitra has alleged an attempt by BJP workers to target her during a public appearance. While accusing BJP workers of orchestrating the latest protest, PTI said it could not independently verify the authenticity of the video it shared and there was no immediate response from the BJP to the allegations.
