Security was beefed up in Kashmir in the wake of the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran on Saturday (February 28, 2026), even as the ruling National Conference urged the Center to evacuate all Kashmiris stranded in the West Asian country by “all available means”.
The National Conference (NC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the chief clerics of Kashmir condemned the joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

Dozens of protesters took to the streets in Kashmir’s Bandipora to show support for Iran and condemn the attack on it. They raised pro-Iran slogans. Similar scenes were witnessed in Budgam and Srinagar districts to “condemn” the attack on Iran.
Officials said Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had been placed under house arrest “as a precautionary measure”. The Mirwaiz were scheduled to deliver a sermon at the shrine in Srinagar as part of the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.
“Hindering a purely religious sermon on such an important occasion is unwarranted and disappointing. The gathering was spiritual in nature and aimed at commemorating the life and legacy of Hazrat Khadija, a revered figure of Islam,” said an Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid spokesperson.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said he “strongly condemned Israel’s attack on Iran.” “The lack of international accountability for Israel’s aggression in the region, especially with regard to the Palestinians, has encouraged it to act with impunity in such an arbitrary manner. With the US, Israel has now pushed the region into a dangerous escalation that risks igniting a wider regional conflict in the Middle East and destabilizing global peace and security,” Mirwaiz said.
National Conference (NC) Chairman and Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah said US President Donald Trump has told the world that he will end wars, not start them. “Today he launched what his own officials describe as ‘not a small strike’ but weeks of non-stop operations. The hypocrisy is staggering. America cannot call itself the judge, jury and executioner of sovereign nations. The US is the single biggest threat to stability in the Middle East and the world must make that clear,” Mr Ruhullah said.
He also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to “ensure the safety and security of all Kashmiris stranded in Iran and to evacuate them by all available means”.
Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti extended her prayers to “Iran and its resilient people as they face yet another act of aggression by Israel”.
“A nation that has long stood as the defining voice of the Muslim world derives its strength from unshakable faith and conviction. No bullet or threat can extinguish its sovereignty or break its spirit. May Allah’s protection surround Iran, give its people courage and patience, and guide its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei with wisdom and strength,” the Mufti said.
