Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill found himself at the center of a digital storm on Monday after a post-match post that divided fans on social media. After his team emphatic win over Chennai Super Kings in Chepauk, Gill shared a photo on Instagram of himself holding a yellow whistle – the iconic symbol of the CSK Whistle Pod anthem, accompanied by the caption “Nandri Chennai” (Thank you, Chennai).
Although the post was intended as a gesture of gratitude to the Chennai crowd, it was interpreted by many as a subtle “kick” or “troll” aimed at the home franchise after their defeat. CSK vs GT, IPL 2026: Highlights | Scorecard
The reaction was immediate and polarized. For some of the faithful of ČSK, the sight of the opponent’s captain posing with their sacred symbol in their own backyard seemed like an unnecessary provocation.
On the other hand, supporters and neutral observers defended the 26-year-old, claiming the gesture was a “boss move” and a playful nod to the atmosphere. Screenshot from Instagram
GT SILENCE CSK IN CHEPAUK
Social media drama followed the match where Gujarat Titans were anything but playful. Chasing a target of 159, GT turned the Chepauk fortress into their playground and won by 20 balls.
The chase was led by a master class from Sai Sudharsan who haunted his home nation with 87 off 46 balls. Punctuated by seven towering sixes, Sudharsan’s innings eclipsed CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s brave unbeaten 74.
The first spark was provided by Gill himself, racing to a quick start alongside Sudharsan before being bowled by Sanju Samson’s bowling. Despite Gill’s dismissal, the Titans never lost momentum and Jos Buttler played a calm supporting role to seal an eight-wicket victory.
Earlier in the day, CSK struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined GT attack. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj dismantled CSK’s top order during the power over, leaving the hosts at 37/4.
However, the match was not without controversy. A marginal no-call on Arshad Khan’s potential off-ball in the 19th over – resulting in the dismissal of Jamie Overton on the following delivery – sent Chennai Dome and fans fuming.
However, CSK failed to fire together with the bat. Ruturaj made up for their slow start but a lack of contributions from Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis meant they were unable to push through and post a competitive total.
