Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) handled 32.4 million passengers in the first nine months of 2025.
“KIA is the busiest airport in South India and the third largest in the country. The airport handled 27.3 million domestic passengers and 5.1 million international passengers in the first nine months of 2025, representing year-on-year growth of 5% and 30.1%, respectively,” Fairfax India Holdings Corporation said in an interim report for the nine months ending September 2025.
New routes
She attributed the growth to the launch of new routes and the start of operations of new international airlines from KIA.
“This growth was supported by increased capacity from major domestic and international carriers, the launch of new routes and the launch of new international airlines,” it said.
The current airport expansion plan states that there are plans to include new airport metro stations, upgrades to existing terminals, additional aircraft taxiways and new tunnels, links and walkways.
“Bangalore International Airport Limited’s (BIAL) plans to increase the overall capacity of the airport are also continuing and include the construction of the second phase of Terminal 2 by FY 2029 and the third terminal by FY 2034.
