Khairatabad Bada Ganesh: Traffic Police issues route plan and urges devotees to use public transport

The Hyderabad Traffic Police has announced a detailed traffic management plan for the upcoming Khairatabad Bada Ganesh festival, with more than 30 lakh devotees expected to visit the idol during the 10-day festival.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis along with senior traffic police officials on Saturday inspected major routes and access roads around Khairatabad to assess the arrangements ahead of the festival.

The traffic police have identified four main routes for devotees seeking darshan. They can approach the venue via Khairatabad Metro Station, Dwarka Hotel and Telephone Bhavan, Mint Compound and IMAX Prasad, or through Colony Road and Basti behind the idol.

With large crowds expected, officials have urged devotees to use public transport, including Metro, MMTS and RTC buses. The Metro will operate from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM while special RTC buses will be operated in addition to the 2,200 regular buses that touch the Khairatabad route daily.

Those who arrive in private vehicles have been asked to carpool. Parking will be available at IMAX Ground, HMDA Lake View Parking and E-Racing Ground behind NTR Park on NTR Marg side. The Maktha parking lot on Necklace Road will be utilized if the primary parking areas are full, while the Visweswarayya Bhavan will be available for visitors coming from the Metro and VV Socha side. Parking on the Telephone Bhavan side will be restricted.

The traffic police has also designated an open area adjacent to the MMTS station for pick-up and drop-off by autorickshaws and Ola and Uber vehicles. Stopping on the main road between VV Statue, Khairatabad and Nirankari for the purpose of picking up or alighting passengers will not be permitted.

Metro travelers were advised to alight towards the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh or Pandal side. Those exiting towards the Seven Temples side would have to cross the main road, which could disrupt traffic, officials said.

Several diversions will be enforced during the festival. Vehicles will not be allowed towards Rajdoot Lane and Dwarka Hotel and will be diverted towards Telephone Bhavan. Traffic entering Mint Lane will be diverted towards Secretariat, while vehicles passing through IMAX will not be allowed access towards Bada Ganesh and will instead be diverted towards Necklace Road or Khairatabad flyover. Traffic from the Rajiv Gandhi statue towards the level crossing will be diverted towards Nirankari.

Separate entrance and exit queues have been created for pedestrians who will not be allowed to pass on the main road. Pedestrian crossings will be allowed only at Khairatabad Junction, Shadan U-turn and Nirankari.

The traffic police also clarified that the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh darshan will end on September 23. No darshan will be allowed on 24th September.
