Ketan Agarwal murder: Chetan Chowdhury’s family rejects charges as police present evidence of conspiracy | Today’s news

The father of Chetan Chowdhury, who is one of the prime suspects in the murder of real estate businessman Ketan Vishal Agarwal, has alleged that his son is being falsely accused in the case.

Babulal Chowdhury, Chetan’s father, insisted on Wednesday that his son had no role in the tragedy that took place at Lohagad Fort on June 18, 2026.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Babulal said that his son is being made a scapegoat in the case. However, he said Chetan told his parents that he was heading for a meeting that day and did not give them any details about his destination or who he was meeting.

Police claimed that CCTV footage showed a man identified as Chetan wearing a hooded sweatshirt on a hot day near Lohagad Fort, raising suspicions about his involvement in Ketan’s murder.

Chetan’s family, especially his father Babulal, insist that he is falsely accused and had no role in Ketan’s death, claiming that he was only a bystander during the incident.

Investigators found that Siya Goyal planned Ketan’s murder after previous visits to Lohagad Fort where she discussed the murder plan with Chetan and even tried to push him off a cliff before the fatal incident.

Given the conflicting signals from law enforcement and evidence of premeditated actions by Siya, Ketan’s family had legitimate reasons to be skeptical of the initial classification of his death as accidental.

Siya was said to be afraid of family humiliation due to breaking off the engagement and preferred to dispose of Ketan rather than elope with her lover Chetan Chowdhury.

“We have never seen the girl in question and know absolutely nothing about her,” Babulal told ANI, referring to Ketan’s fiancee Siya Goyal, who was also arrested. “Actually, I only found out her name, Siya, yesterday.

“He clearly told us that he didn’t push the boy and was standing far away. The girl was standing right there when the boy fell,” he claimed, adding that while he doesn’t know if Siya pushed Ketana, his son “was standing a little further back.”

He also claimed that local law enforcement was giving the family mixed signals about his son’s arrest. “The police informed us that it was a minor issue and it was actually a scam,” he claimed, adding, “They assured us that they would release the child within two hours.”

Chetan’s uncle Udayram Chowdhury also maintained that his nephew is innocent. He accuses the media of a one-sided narrative.

“Chetan is completely innocent in this matter. The media is promoting it and showing a one-sided view on Instagram, but Chetan is not involved. Chetan is a sportsman and a very straightforward person; there has never been a single complaint against him from anyone in the market,” he told ANI.

“Our family members know nothing about Chetan’s relationship with the girl; we had absolutely no idea. We even got a chance to meet him for a minute and he tearfully told us that he was falsely involved,” added Udayram.

Pune Rural Police construction case against Chetan, Siya Goyal

Although the Chowdhury family is defending their relative, the police investigation, which is now investigating Agarwal’s death as a case of murder, has built a strong case against both Chetan and Siya Goyal. The investigation revealed that the murder was a planned conspiracy.

According to the Pune Rural Police, the plot to kill Agarwal first took shape during a visit to Lohagad Fort on May 31. According to investigators, Ketan and Siya visited the fort on May 31, which gave her the idea to kill him once she noticed him sitting near the edge of the fort.

The police also claimed that on June 14, the first attempt was made to carry out the plan when Siya allegedly tried to force Ketan out of the fort. However, once her attempt failed, she screamed that she had spotted a snake and claimed that she had pushed Ketan by mistake.

According to the investigation, Siya and Chetan met at a Diwali party in 2025 and eventually became close. According to police, they remained in contact for several months.

Officials also claimed that before the incident, Siya and Chetan had met at a cafe where they discussed their plan to assassinate Ketan and also identified places in the fort from where their potential victim could allegedly be pushed out.

Siya and Chetan are currently in seven-day police custody till June 29 in connection with the alleged murder.
