Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Saturday (March 7, 2026) that Kerala remains a model for speedy trial and prosecution in cases related to crimes against women and children.
The state managed to punish the accused after completing the investigation and trial within 100 days of the incident, he said after the opening of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
According to him, the police and the prosecution have always remained vigilant against attempts by the accused to influence witnesses after being released on bail. The state has 15 permanent POCSO courts and around 50 fast-track courts to expedite cases related to crime against children. The government has appointed special prosecutors in all these courts, he said.
He said the government would establish a ‘Prosecutor Academy’ to provide excellent training to prosecutors and strengthen the prosecution mechanism. Almost 25 cents was allocated to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for the project, in addition to the approval of funds for the construction of its headquarters building.
Chief Justice of Kerala High Court Soumen Sen posted the logo of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions online. K. Gopalakrishna Kurup, Advocate General released the silver jubilee souvenir cover.
