Amid tensions over Kerala’s next chief minister, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the prime minister appeared to have “amnesia” over delaying his own party’s leadership in Delhi.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s slurs on the ongoing tension over the selection of the Kerala Chief Minister, Mr. Chennithala reminded him that the BJP itself had reportedly delayed the selection of the Delhi Chief Minister by 50 days.
He further claimed that the Congress follows a thorough “democratic process” in its party functioning and does not engage in an “authoritarian” setup, unlike the BJP where PM Modi and Amit Shah are said to take all the decisions in the party.
“Prime Minister Modi should remember that it took him 50 days to announce the Chief Minister in Delhi. It is only now that I have realized that the Prime Minister seems to be losing his memory. The same Prime Minister who created uncertainty in Delhi by not announcing the Chief Minister for 50 days is now criticizing the Congress,” Mr. Chennithala told reporters.
“The Prime Minister should not forget the past. The Indian National Congress is a democratic party, not an authoritarian one. That’s why the high command has said that it will discuss with all of us and take a democratic decision. The situation in their party is that if PM Modi and Amit Shah decide something, it becomes everything,” he added.
