Kerala is ready to run K-Learn, a cloud platform on an online course adapted specifically for a four-year state study program.
The aim of this initiative is to fill the gaps that have left the existing national and global massive platforms of Open Open (MOOC) by more aligning with existing academic and credit structures of the university framework.
It is designed to overcome the limitation of existing MOOC providers, such as Swayam, Coursera and Edx, which does not always match university academic calendars, credit systems or course results.
Minister of Higher Education said R. Bindu that K-Learn, head of the Council for Higher Education in Kerala (KSHEC), will serve as a specialized digital node, which offers signature courses designed by the faculty. Such courses will be developed by the faculty from the state and abroad and will be hosted on the platform with the consent of the relevant university studies.
KSSHEC establishes an independent unit in its Center for Excellency for Teaching, Learning and Training for the Development, Hosting and Management of Online Loan Courses. The unit will cooperate with universities and other university institutions, approved skills agencies at the State Center for Career Development Course and Career Planning and Subjects to create digital education ecosystems.
The unique feature of the platform is its free model for students. Since it will be calculated as part of the teaching responsibility of teachers, students will not have to pay further payment for the courses.
The platform will also contain transparent evaluation mechanisms. It is assumed that it is a robust support for online exams and if necessary physical examination in designated centers.
Universities will have flexibility to integrate these courses into their baskets, open them for students’ registration and also carry out external exams whenever necessary. Internal stamps can also be shared with universities to ensure smooth transfer and credit recognition. The proposed framework will allow students to provide additional credits and access to courses that are not available at their own universities.
