A day after the local body election results were declared, the Kerala Congress (M) (KC(M)) on Sunday alleged that a deliberate disinformation campaign was being waged against the party.
In a statement, KC(M) district president Lopes Mathew refuted allegations that the party did not perform well in the local body elections. Citing Pala Assembly constituency as an example, he pointed out that within grama panchayats and urban constituencies, the United Democratic Front (UDF) won 91 seats while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 87 seats. In Pala municipality, the KC(M) retained 10 of the 11 seats it had won in the previous elections, losing only narrowly, he said.
At the same time, the party also held key district panchayat divisions in the constituency, apart from cultivating the Kidangoor division, which includes panchayats like Kozhuvanal, Mutholi and parts of Karoor. As a result, the party succeeded in winning seats in almost all segments of the Pala constituency across the district panchayat, municipality and local bodies.
At the same time, the KC(M) district president acknowledged that the party’s total number of seats has fallen from 208 in the previous local polls to 152 this time.
Mr. Mathew also noted that while the LDF improved its number of seats compared to the last election and managed to win back seven panchayats from the UDF in Kottayam district, the BJP’s electoral gains effectively worked in favor of the UDF.
