North Kerala, comprising seven constituencies from Kasaragod to Thrissur, may have changed the electoral map in the 2026 assembly elections, where the Malabar wave not only ousted the government but effectively rewrote the rules of future political engagement in the state.
Once the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front won in 2021, the 73-seat belt turned into a launching pad for the revival of the Congress-led United Democratic Front, which shook the very foundations of Left politics. Five years ago, the LDF had 50 seats in this region. That number has now dwindled to just ten.
