Several rebel and dissident candidates with previous ties to Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and who is in line with Congress– led United Democratic Front (UDF) just before April 9, 2026 Kerala Assembly pollssaw significant gains in early counting trends across Kerala on Monday (May 4, 2026).
“Former senior CPI(M) leader G. Sudhakaran, who did not renew his party membership as he claimed he was sidelined by the district leadership, was leading in Ambalapuzz after opposing sitting MLA H. Salam,” Election Commission data showed. According to initial counting trends, Mr. Sudhakaran was leading by more than 6,000 votes.
