It was a lime for the UDF in four central districts of Kerala, adding to the front’s impressive show across the state. The LDF drew a blank in Ernakulam (14 assembly seats), Kottayam (nine seats) and Idukki (five seats) districts. However, Thrissur district gave him the much-needed consolation where he outplayed his rivals and prevented a clean sweep of the UDF in the region. The LDF won nine of the 13 seats in the district, leaving only four for the UDF.
Although Ernakulam is historically considered a UDF stronghold, the LDF wrested five seats from the UDF in 2021. However, the Congress and its allies won all the seats, ensuring the defeat of P. Rajeev, a CPI(M) strongman and Industries Minister in the outgoing ministry.
