Isha Ambani is among the Indian celebrities to grace the Met Gala 2026. She donned a custom-made Gaurav Gupta saree woven with pure gold threads and over 200 diamonds for the biggest night of fashion. Speaking about her look, she recently shared why it holds sentimental value.

Reliance’s saree-wearing non-executive draws references from ancient India. The border of her saree featured pichwai inspired hand painted motifs with hand embroidery techniques like zardozi, aari work and relief embroidery. According to Vogue, the earth-hued saree was handcrafted by more than 50 artisans who took more than 1,200 hours to complete it.
The saree came with a cape of the same cut. “It’s meant to be a sculptural element of the saree,” Isha Ambani explained to Vogue at the event.
Isha Ambani wears more than 200 diamonds from Nita Ambani
The highlight of her look was a bodice decorated with diamonds. It featured diamonds with metal zardozi handwork. Said to have been envisioned by Nita Ambani and created by Kantilal Chhotalal, it contained over 200 old mined diamonds. All these stones were taken from Nita Ambani’s private collection and hand stitched over the blouse.
She paired her look with two 250+ carat graduated diamond necklaces. She also opted for haathphools and diamond belts to complete her look.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the look, Ambani explained: “It’s a handwoven saree and the blouse is full of my mother’s jewellery. It has various sentimental pieces. She has pieces as gifts when my children were born.”

Why did Isha Ambani carry a mango at the Met Gala?
Isha Ambani also came complete with a mango. Isha Ambani revealed that it was not a real mango but a statue. “It’s like 20 years old. It’s not recent,” she said.
“The saree is the ultimate symbol of the art form. That’s why I chose it,” Isha Ambani also said.
