KCR farm clashes: Three SC/ST Act cases booked

HYDERABAD

Three cases have been registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in connection with the recent clashes between BRS and Congress supporters in Markook, Siddipet district.

Cases were registered against both locals and foreigners in connection with incidents during the confrontation.

The latest development comes days after tension escalated in Markook following a protest by “Congress-backed Dalits” near BRS president and former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farm in Erravelli. The protest was held over the BRS MLC’s “derogatory remarks” against Gaddam Speaker Prasad Kumar.

The protest sparked a counter-mobilization by BRS supporters in the area, leading to confrontations between the two groups. Police intervened and arrested several people as tensions rose.

Four BRS leaders including former Markook MP Krishna Yadav, former market committee chairman Gajwel Madasu Srinivas, Markook mandal BRS president Karunakar Reddy and former MP Pandu Gouda were injured during the clashes, according to the party. BRS leaders alleged that Congress workers assaulted them while the police were taking them into custody.

The dispute further intensified after BRS cadres conducted a ‘purification’ ritual on roads used by Dalit Congress protesters by sprinkling turmeric water. The incident drew criticism from the Congress and became a political flashpoint.

With three new cases now registered under the SC/ST Act, the police are probing the incidents separately and verifying the involvement of those booked, including people from outside the locality.
