Karnataka opens farmer registration for Totapuri mangoes under MIP programme

After the Union government announced the provision of support price under the market intervention price scheme for Totapuri mangoes, the state government has started registration of farmers on June 27 (Saturday).

On June 25, the Center announced a program to protect the interests of Totapuri mango growers in Karnataka, especially those in Kolar district. Registration is currently underway in Kolar, Chickballapur and Bengaluru South for the year 2026-27.

Ibrahim Maigur, director, horticulture department, said, “Farmers can first register under the scheme and only then sell mangoes. The registration process for farmers will start from June 27 at selected taluk and hobli centres. As the scheme is being implemented through Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Limited, they will take over the task of ‘MIS-PDPS’ only for Mango Farmers Software Corporation for a period of one month. from the date of the first mango production transaction in the software.”

He asked the eligible Totapuri mango growers of Kolar and Chickballapur districts to register themselves at the designated centers and avail the benefits of this scheme.

Mr. Maigur added, “Farmers must sell their mangoes in Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) markets and mango processing units declared by the Agricultural Marketing Department under the jurisdiction of the respective districts. The Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts will form a special team comprising officials from the Revenue, Agricultural Marketing and Horticulture Departments to supervise and implement the scheme.”

Purchase limit and market intervention price (MIP)

According to a state government press release, the market intervention price (MIP) has been fixed at ₹ 1,750 per quintal for procurement of Totapuri mangoes. Under the scheme, a purchase quantity of 1,30,000 tonnes has been targeted and 25% of the difference between the minimum import price and the prevailing market price will be paid to farmers. This means farmers will be paid ₹ 4.37 per kg.

The statement further said that under the scheme, differential amount will be provided only for a maximum of 200 quintals and limited to a maximum of five acres for each farmer.
