
Karnataka DGP (Civil Rights Enforcement) K Ramachandra Rao has been caught in a viral video purportedly from his office purportedly showing him in an alleged intimate position with several women. The video went viral on social media and sparked a massive row and investigation by the government.
Ramachandra Rao dismissed the authenticity of the videos, calling them “fabricated and fake”. The DGP also tried to clear his stand with Home Minister G Parameshwara but this did not bear fruit.
The top cop is the stepfather of Harshavardhini Ranya alias Ranya Rao, arrested in a sensational gold smuggling case and currently lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail. Kannada television news channels also aired blurred images of the women in the video.
What did Siddaramaiah say?
When asked about the viral video of DGP Ramachandra Rao, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “We will investigate the matter and take disciplinary action. No one is above the law.” He also warned against proceeding DGP is found guilty.
“I learned about it in the morning. We will initiate disciplinary proceedings against him. No one is above the law, no matter how high a police officer is,” he responded to the controversy surrounding the director general of the police.
Speaking to reporters outside the minister’s house, he said: “I’m also wondering how and when it happened and who did it. Anything can happen at this time. I have no idea.”
When reporters said it was an old video, he said, “Old means, eight years ago when I was in Belagavi.”
He was also asked what he was planning to do next, to which Ramachandra Rao said he would discuss it with his lawyer. “I am shocked. The whole thing is made up, a lie. The whole video is fake. I have no idea about it,” said Ramachandra Rao.
When reporters asked how it happened, he said, “I’ll only know if it happened. I don’t know about it.”
Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said the government will take action if anyone does anything wrong.
“As the minister for women and child development, I can tell you that we will act ruthlessly, regardless of the official position she holds,” she told reporters.
