The couple was caught in a debt over the medical treatment of a man who became a bed after a road accident, killed their two smaller children and decided to end his life. While the man died, his wife was saved by their relatives. The incident occurred on Saturday in the village of Gonakanahalli in Hosakote on the outskirts of Bengalur.
The deceased was identified as Shivakumar, 32 years, his daughter Chandrakala, 11, and son of Uday Surya, 7.
Police detained Shivakumar’s wife Manjulu (30) for accusing murder for further investigation.
According to the police, Shivakumar, an employee of the daily wage, met four years ago with an accident hit road transport and was forced to stop working after both legs were seriously injured. The couple borrowed a huge loan for the medical treatment of Shivakumara.
Although Manjula worked as home aid, it was not enough for the family and the couple was under pressure to repay the loan. The police said they couldn’t bear it, the couple decided to end their lives after killing their children.
According to the plan, the couple strangled the children as they slept and plunged their heads in a bucket filled with water to secure their death, the police said.
Shivakumar asked Manjulu to get some refreshments as the last meal and inform his relatives about his plan so that they could make the last ceremonies after their death. When Manjula went to the store, Shivakumar ended his life. Manjula went to the house of her relatives and informed them about the plan, the police said.
When returning home, relatives were suspected and followed. They warned the police before she could take an extreme step in her house.
Police Hosakote moved the bodies for the autopsy and detained Manjul on the basis of the murder of her children.
