Kargil veteran assaulted in Gurugram: Parking staff allegedly hit ‘Op Safed Sagar’ hero with iron rod | Today’s news
In a shocking incident, a Kargil war veteran was allegedly attacked with an iron rod in Gurugram, leaving him with severe head injuries and a broken arm.
According to an NDTV report, former Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta, who was part of the Indian Air Force’s ‘Op Safed Sagar’ team in 1999, was attacked unprovoked by a parking lot attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram.
In his complaint to the police, Gupta alleged that the attendant also threatened to kill him. He also blamed the police for not helping him and claimed that the hospital filed a false report.
What happened:
Amit Gupta went to Gonzo Restaurant in Magnum Global Park for a family dinner on Thursday evening around 8:00 PM.
After dropping his family off at a restaurant, he looked for a parking space but was directed to various locations – valet, basement and multi-level parking – by parking attendants who ultimately refused to park his car, Gupta said in his complaint.
At one point, when he tried to reverse his car, the parking lot attendant allegedly hit his windshield in an attempt to break it.
Narrating the horrifying incident, Gupta told NDTV, “When I got out of the car and protested, the attendant brought an iron rod and hit me twice, once on my hand and then on my head. I was covered in blood.”
The accused also allegedly threatened Gupta for life.
A close call
Amit Gupta claimed that neither the security personnel nor other parking staff present at the spot rescued him. He said he even called the police hotline, but they didn’t pick up for another half hour.
Finally, the cook intervened and saved his life.
“The attack was sudden and unprovoked. I couldn’t even defend myself,” he said.
Gupta had serious injuries on his head and elbow after the attack. According to NDTV, he was taken to Medanta Hospital where he underwent surgery to fuse his ulna with plates.
The veteran also accused the hospital of submitting a fake MLC (Medico-Legal Case) report that made no mention of the bleeding and elbow injury. “I don’t get any support from the police,” he added.
In his submission to the police, Gupta demanded strict action against the accused and said that an FIR must be registered against the accused for attempt to murder and causing grievous hurt.
