Jofra Archer pounces on PBKS after RR reach Qualifier 2: I don't want Punjab's fate

Jofra Archer took a dig at Punjab Kings and said Rajasthan Royals want to stay grounded despite reaching Qualifier 2 in the IPL playoffs. RR beat SRH by 47 runs get into the clash against Gujarat. RR were able to shake off their slump towards the end of the league stage and won their last two matches to reach the play-offs at the expense of Punjab. PBKS lost six of their last seven games to miss the playoffs.

Speaking to the broadcasters, Archer stopped short of saying the team was on top at the moment and insisted it was a side moving in the right direction.

“Very confident. Every game, every game at a time. I think we’re on top, well, I don’t want to say we’re on top, we’re going in the right direction at the right time, you know, we don’t want to have what happened with the Kings 11, so I think we’re on the right track, everybody’s on the chip every game, and that’s the important part,” Archer said.

Archer had a good day at the office, picking up the wickets of Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Travis Head in the powerplay to wreck SRH’s chase of 244. However, he finished with figures of three for 58 in his four overs.

Archer thought the bowling plans were good from RR.

“Other than the numbers, I thought our bowling was pretty good. I thought all the guys bowled well. We stuck to our plans. We stuck to our lengths and we were rewarded tonight,” Archer said.

The star of the show of the night was Vaibhav Sooryavanshi whose 29-ball 97 scripted the victory. Archer said he wanted the 15-year-old to go and score 150 as it would give the RR bowlers more runs to defend.

“It was very exciting, the more runs he scores, the more runs we have to defend. So, you know, he can go on and get 150. So it’s good for a bowler to get a lot of runs,” Archer said.

RR will now take on Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur on Friday, May 29.
