Jeff Bezos predicts millions of people will live in space by 2045, says robots will take over jobs on the moon | Today’s news

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has predicted that millions of people could be living in space by 2045, with robots doing most of the work on the moon and other places outside of Earth. Speaking at Italian Tech Week, the billionaire entrepreneur outlined a future in which advances in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and space technology could accelerate humanity’s off-planet expansion.

Bezos, who also founded the aerospace company Blue Origin and is the world’s second-richest person, said the pace of technological development could allow large-scale human settlement in space within the next two decades.

Jeff Bezos predicts that millions of people could live in space

“I believe there will be millions of people living in space in the next few decades,” Bezos said, suggesting the transition could happen sooner than many expect.

“This is how fast it’s going to accelerate.

However, Bezos said the prospect of life beyond Earth will largely be a matter of personal choice rather than necessity.

“Mostly they will live there because they want to. We don’t need humans to live in space,” he said.

His prediction points to a future in which life in space could become a possibility for millions of people, although the timeline and practical requirements for establishing large human settlements remain uncertain.

Robots could take over jobs on the moon

Bezos also expects robots to handle much of the physical work required on the moon and other places in space. He argued that using machines for such tasks would be more economical than sending people to perform them.

“If you need to do some work on the surface of the moon or anywhere else, we will be able to send robots to do it, and that will be much more efficient than sending people,” he said.

According to Bezos, advances in AI and robotics could reduce the need to send humans on expensive or dangerous missions while streamlining space exploration and development.

This approach would allow robots to perform tasks in environments where human involvement may be costly or risky. However, Bezos’ remarks describe his expectations for future technological capabilities rather than a confirmed timeline for large-scale deployment of such systems.

Jeff Bezos claims that AI will lead to greater prosperity

Bezos also offered an optimistic assessment of the economic implications of artificial intelligence, saying that technological innovation has historically helped expand prosperity. His view contrasts with fears among technologists that artificial intelligence could displace workers or create broader societal risks.

“Civilizational abundance comes from our inventions,” he said, comparing AI to transformative technologies like the plow.

“These tools increase our abundance, and this pattern will continue.”

His comments reflect a belief that technological advances can increase the availability of resources and improve productivity. However, whether AI will deliver these gains in general will depend on how its benefits and costs are distributed across industries and society.
