India’s pace leader Jasprit Bumrah has retained his top spot among Test bowlers in the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday, May 13. Among Indian batsmen, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are ranked 8th and 9th respectively in the Test batting rankings.
In the bowling rankings Bumrah continues to dominate the table with 879 rating points, fending off competition from leading pacers from around the world. The next highest ranked Indian bowler is Mohammed Siraj who is ranked 12th. Behind him is all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja at the 14th position, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav occupies the 15th spot in the latest update.
In the powerhouse list, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Test captain Pat Cummins gained one position each to move to second and fourth. New Zealand paceman Matt Henry also made a remarkable jump, moving to third place in the rankings after strong performances.
IS BCCI OBJECTIVE ON JASPRIT BUMRAH?

On the batting front, former England Test captain Joe Root continues to lead the charts with 880 points and maintains a steady position at the top of the table. India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal follows closely at eighth with 750 points, while skipper Shubman Gill, who has climbed one position, is at ninth with 730 points.
England captain Harry Brook holds the second spot in the batting charts, followed by Australia’s Travis Head and Steve Smith at third and fourth respectively. The top ranking reflects a strong combination of consistency and recent form across the teams.
Gill in particular had a breakthrough year in Test cricket last year, he finished as the top scorer in the entire world. He amassed 983 runs in nine Tests at an excellent average of 70.21, including several centuries. His standout performance was a career-best 269 against England, underlining his rise in red-ball cricket. Gill ranked 9th in the latest ICC Test Rankings (Screengrab from X)
It is also notable that India has not played a World Test Championship (WTC) match in 2026 so far. Their last red ball game came at home against South Africa in November where they suffered a 2-0 series defeat.
Looking ahead, India are scheduled to play just one Test in 2026, a one-off against Afghanistan on June 6. After this match, the team will focus on white-ball cricket in preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup cycle.
