DMRC opens entry gates of Mandi House, Central Secretariat Metro Station; the rest of the 15 still closed

Entrance gates at Mandi House and Central Secretariat metro stations were reopened on Friday evening, but 15 other stations in central Delhi remained closed for the third day in a row due to security concerns amid the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Jantar Mantar.

On Friday morning, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that 17 stations – Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Shivaji Bag and Market will remain closed Jor 7:30 am till further orders. A few hours later, on the 18th, the New Delhi Metro station was also closed.

At Janpath Metro station, the nearest station to the protest site at Jantar Mantar, the glass panels at the entrance were covered with newspaper by CISF personnel as protesters painted graffiti over parts of the protest venue.

The interchange facility continued to be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations, DMRC said.

17 stations remained closed on Wednesday and Thursday.
