After being whitewashed 0-2 by Ireland, India have now lost the five-match T20I series against England 0-3 with one match to play.Ten Doeschate said that India must first accept that it has not performed well overseas.“We’ve talked so much about adaptability, it’s easy to say we have to adapt, that’s easy to say, but really now is the point where we have to understand the process of what it takes to make those adaptations,” Ten Doeschate said.“I don’t want to stand up and defend the players and also be too critical, but it’s up to the players to have the sense to accept the fact that it’s going really badly and look at the evidence in front of them,” the coach said. This is the first time since February 2019 that India have lost two consecutive bilateral T20I series. They then lost 2-1 in New Zealand before suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to Australia.England also created history by beating India in a bilateral T20I series by two or more matches for the first time. India have won five of the previous six series between the two teams, while one ended in a draw.Ten Doeschate said the players now need to focus on succeeding in tough overseas conditions rather than relying on performances at home.“Psychologically and mentally, it’s a challenge for the group to accept the fact that we’re not doing well in overseas conditions and tell the players to look that there’s a big prize in two years in Australia. We want to be a team that smashes 250 in India and looks great hitting 80m6 at the Eden Gardens, or you want to come to places like Manchester, Southampton where things are a bit different further down the line.”“Those were the places where we want to be a team that excels in different conditions and whether we have the mentality to make those adjustments. That’s a mental challenge and that’s why we need the players to accept that,” he added.India will be looking to avoid a 4-0 scoreline when they take on England in the fifth and final T20I in Southampton on Saturday.
Should Ryan ten Doeschate continue as an assistant coach after this streak?
