Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday rejected US President Donald Trump’s claims of an internal rift in the country’s leadership, saying all Iranians are united as “revolutionaries”. He further emphasized that all citizens of the country are fully united with the supreme leader and stand together against any external aggression.
The statement followed US President Donald Trump’s remarks that there was infighting within Iran’s political and military establishment.
In a post on X, Pezeshkian rejected Trump’s claims of internal divisions between “hardliners” and “moderates”, saying: “There are no radicals or moderates in Iran; we are all ‘Iranians’ and ‘revolutionaries’ and thanks to the iron unity of nation and government, with total obedience to the Supreme Leader of the revolution or criminals, we will regret his actions aggressively.”
Further hinting that Iran would make the aggressor regret his actions, he wrote: “One God, one nation, one leader and one way; this way is the way to victory for our dear Iran, more precious than life.”
The remark comes after Donald Trump said in a post on social media platform Truth Social that there is internal division within the Iranian leadership. Claiming infighting between “hardliners” and “moderates” in the country’s political and military establishment, Trump said Iran was trying to determine the direction of its leadership. According to a statement by the US president, there were deep internal divisions in Iran amid diplomatic commitments to find a comprehensive solution to the situation in West Asia.
“Iran is having a very difficult time,” says Donald Trump
Describing the internal battle as “crazy”, he said: “Iran is having a very hard time figuring out who their leader is! They just don’t know! The fight between the ‘Hardliners’ who are losing BADLY on the battlefield and the ‘Moderates’ who aren’t very moderate at all (but gaining respect!) is CRAZY!” According to the US president, the United States maintains strategic control over a critical global oil shipping route – the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports take place.
Donald Trump also warned that the control will last until an agreement is reached with Tehran. Trump commented: “We have complete control over the Strait of Hormuz. No ship can enter or leave without the consent of the United States Navy. It is ‘tightly sealed’ until Iran is able to make a DEAL!!!”
On Wednesday, Pezeshkian criticized Washington for its “hypocritical and contradictory behavior,” claiming that “bad faith, sieges and threats” are the main obstacles to negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
