Iran US News LIVE Update: US President Donald Trump called on allied countries to deploy warships to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and there were no signs on Sunday that the ongoing war would end soon, Reuters reported.
“Countries of the world that receive oil through the Strait of Hormuz must take care of this passage and we will help – A LOT!” Trump wrote this on the social network on Saturday. “The U.S. will also coordinate with these countries to make sure everything goes quickly, smoothly, and well.”
Trump, meanwhile, told NBC News that it was unclear whether Iran had dropped mines in the Strait of Hormuz. He further added that he is not ready to make a deal with Iran because “the conditions are not yet good enough.”
Meanwhile, explosions were heard early Sunday in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, as Iran continued its attacks in the Persian Gulf region, according to two AFP journalists.
Bahraini authorities reported that since the attacks began, their defenses had intercepted 125 missiles and 203 drones. The attacks claimed two lives in Bahrain and another 24 in nearby Gulf countries.
Iran has fired hundreds of missiles and drones at neighboring Gulf countries, saying the attacks were targeting US military assets.
However, airports and oil facilities throughout the region were also affected or threatened. Meanwhile, the United States and Israel have carried out thousands of strikes against targets inside Iran as the conflict continues into its third week, the AP reported.
