MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya (X) Signs are mounting that MS Dhoni could finally return in IPL 2026, despite earlier reports suggesting a longer absence. The veteran wicket-taker, who is yet to make an appearance this season, was recently seen stuffed during a Chennai Super Kings training session, as shared on the franchise’s social media. On May 1, ahead of CSK’s home match against Mumbai Indians, Dhoni was spotted at the Chepauk Stadium in full training gear, reuniting with former India teammate and current MI captain Hardik Pandya. The encounter turned into a warm moment when the two embraced during MI practice. Pandya was also seen handing the bat to Dhoni and seemingly asking for feedback, with the CSK legend obliging and engaging in a brief chat before Pandya returned to his teammates. In another clip shared by CSK, Pandya was heard reacting to one of Dhoni’s shots in the nets saying, “Mahi bhai love you darling bye bye” as she watched from behind. Dhoni, who was ruled out of the opening phase of the tournament due to a calf strain, has been attending training sessions regularly, suggesting that his comeback may not be far off. Both CSK and MI have found themselves in a tricky position this season. Mumbai Indians are second from bottom after eight matches, while CSK are slightly better at sixth but still under pressure. With several teams pulling ahead in the standings, both sides are running out of room for error. Fitness concerns remain for key figures, with Dhoni and Rohit Sharma recovering from injuries. Meanwhile, the management changes under Ruturaj Gaikwad and Hardik Pandya are yet to be fully resolved, with both teams still searching for consistency. Neither side was helped by the frequent changes in game combinations. Mumbai have already used 22 players this season, while CSK have substituted 19, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding their top XI. Their use of the Impact Player rule also raised questions, with tactical decisions often proving difficult to understand. As the iconic CSK-MI rivalry gears up for its next chapter, a potential return of Dhoni could add a much-needed spark to both the competition and CSK’s campaign.
