Delhi Capitals (PTI Photo/Salman Ali) NEW DELHI: Punjab Kings are on a six-match unbeaten streak – five wins and no draw – in the ongoing IPL. Two more wins would match their best run 13 years ago. Their other opponents, the Delhi Capitals, are at the opposite end of the momentum ladder. With three wins from six played and three losses from the last four, DC are sixth in the IPL table. The only win in the last two weeks was the penultimate ball win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Bengaluru. The next two weeks could make or break Delhi Capitals’ campaign with four of their next five games at home. The only road game during this period is against Rajasthan Royals.

Bombay Sport Exchange: Munaf Patel on Gautam Gambhir, Virat vs Bumrah and Indian bowling. In the two home matches that DC have played so far, they beat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets in one and lost by 1 run to Gujarat Titans in the other, a contest that went down to the last ball. This inability to chase down 211 runs is part of DC’s problems this year. They are yet to eclipse the 200+ run mark this season and have failed to do so in 8 out of 10 attempts since 2024.“It looked worse because we were chasing every game. The other day we lost three wickets in an over and we didn’t bat very well. We still did something like 190,” DC’s Tristan Stubbs said on the eve of the match against PBKS at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.“Yes, we didn’t have ideal innings, but on a bad day we won three out of six. Even when we lost, we still put up 190.”“We know there are a few little moments here and there in matches. We put up these big scores. We’re not too worried,” he continued. The problem remains the lack of clarity about the options for first choice. Pathum Nissanka notched three quick-fire 40-plus knocks to top the batting order for the franchise while recording scores of 1, 1 and 8 to round out the impact.Place #3 was the most “adventurous”. Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi and Karun Nair were all tested with a final output of 88 runs at an average of 14.66. Rana was even dropped for poor returns before scoring 57 against SRH in the last match.Sameer Rizvi got off to a good start, helping the team with two consecutive man-of-the-match performances, but things have quietened down since then. His contributions in the last four outings were 0, 6, 2 and 41.Uncertainty also applies in the bowling department. In the absence of Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi and Mukesh Kumar carried the responsibility of the bowling department. However, the spinners did not join the party.Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have combined for 11 wickets this season while conceding 341 runs in 38 overs at an economy of nearly 9 overs. As SRH piled up 242, they bowled just two overs each as Nitish Rana completed his quota of overs. With a crucial stretch ahead and Starc set to join next week, it’s an important contest for the franchise to find its best combination – which so far seems unclear.
