Given the abuse of rice supplied to the recipients of the public distribution system (PDS), and to ensure better diversity of consumption, the Karnataka government decided to provide an “Indire Food Kit” to about 1.26 crore households on a place where it is currently provided instead of five kg of rice.
The set will benefit about 4.48 populations of Crore, which holds poverty (BPL) and will include Tur Dal, oil, sugar and salt.
Other costs
HK Patil, Minister of Rights and Parliamentary Affairs, told Presperson at a briefing after a cabinet meeting that the offer would soon be invited to the supply of food other than rice. He said the new system could cost the cash register approved by the cabinet.
The recognition that the decision was based on reports on extensive abuse that rice was delivered through PDS, Food Minister and Civic Deliveries KH MuniyAppa told the press sheet that surveys have shown abuse of rice delivery and feedback from recipients provided a view of the need to replace five kg of food rice.
“About 90 % of respondents believed that other foods would help households and joined.
The Congress Government, which promised another five kg of rice under Anna Bhaggya, along with five kg of rice, supplied by the Center before public opinion surveys by 2023, could not initially supply rice and provided 170 GBP per month instead of rice because the center refused to deliver a quantum for Anna Bhagy.
Since last year, when the center was renewed, the DBT 170 GBP has been withdrawn and rice delivery began. However, large diversion of rice and abuse of recipients were also reported.
Kit Food
The Minister provided details about the new project and said Quantum of Food Kit will depend on the size of the family. “Quality and quantity will be ensured in the food set offer and transparency will be maintained,” he said, adding that the current allocation would be sufficient to move from the supply of rice to other foods, as it is expected to become a similar amount.
Is subject to the size of the family
According to him, a household consisting of one or two people would receive half kg of each item, while a family involving three to four people will be each kg, while families with five or more people get one and a half kg of each item.
According to data provided by it, about 1.26 households holding BPL cards has about 32.56 lakh households one or two people in a total of about 53.27 lakhs, about 63 lakh households have about 1 1.69 crore.
Mr. MuniyAppa said that more details will be given in a week.
