Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) on Thursday said it has delivered the country’s first domestic 220kV mobile gas-insulated switchgear (m-GIS) system to Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID).
The system was flagged off from TTDI’s Telangana manufacturing plant. GIS is a compact and highly reliable system used for safe and efficient high voltage distribution, especially in space-constrained environments.
The m-GIS 220 kV system is designed and built in accordance with the operational requirements of POWERGRID. POWERGRID played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and defining the technical outlines of the solution, TTDI took on development and production. m-GIS offers rapid deployment and increases network flexibility, resilience and disaster preparedness, the company said in a release.
TTDI is proud to partner with POWERGRID for a homegrown solution to support critical applications and EHV GRID needs in India. The delivery reinforces the company’s commitment to Make in India, said TTDI Chairman and Managing Director Hiroshi Furuta.
The domestic 132kV m-GIS solution is scheduled to be delivered to POWERGRID next month. The company expects to deliver the first domestic 400kV m-GIS system to the same customer in August 2026.
