It’s a big day in Horsens as the knockout stages of the Thomas Cup begin, with India taking on Chinese Taipei in a high-stakes quarter-final clash on Friday, May 1.
The Lakshya Sen-led Indian team will be aiming to progress past the last eight stage for the first time since their historic title run in 2022. However, standing in their way is a resilient Chinese Taipei side who have already shown their ability to defend under pressure.
India entered the play-off with solid momentum as they secured a 4-1 win over Canada and a dominant 5-0 win against Australia in the group stage. Their only setback was a narrow 2–3 loss to defending champions China.
Chinese Taipei, led by Chou Tien Chen, also had a rich group stage. Despite losing to Korea, they topped their group which included Denmark and Sweden. In one of the most remarkable matches of the tournament so far, they staged a stunning comeback against Denmark, winning 3–2 after losing their first two singles matches.
With traditional powerhouses Korea and Indonesia already eliminated in the group stage, the Thomas Cup in Horsens had its fair share of surprises. Both India and Chinese Taipei will now look to seize the moment and move a step closer to the title.
