India issues new travel warning to Iran, urges citizens to leave

India on Monday (June 8, 2026) reiterated its warning to its citizens in Iran to avoid any travel to the country and leave the region by available means of transport.

Advice is based on the latest developments in the region.

In an urgent warning, the Indian Embassy in Iran reiterated its earlier advice to all Indian nationals to avoid traveling to Iran.

“In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian nationals to avoid any travel to Iran,” the advisory on X said.

“Indian nationals currently in Iran are also advised to leave the country by available means of transport,” it said.

On Monday (June 8, 2026), Israel launched airstrikes targeting central and western Iran in response to the firing from Tehran.

On April 7, India issued an advisory asking its citizens in Iran to stay put wherever they are for the next 48 hours.

The advisory came after US President Donald Trump warned that “an entire civilization will die tonight” if Iran does not meet its 8:00 p.m. ET deadline to end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to official figures, around 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict began after Israel and the US struck Iranian targets on February 28. Nearly 1,800 Indians have returned to India so far.
