India at Commonwealth Games: July 28 schedule, medal events, Glasgow build-up

India will look to build on its encouraging start at the 2026 Commonwealth Games when its athletes compete in athletics, boxing, weightlifting, swimming, para-swimming and bowling on Tuesday, July 28.

After another productive day he saw Gyaneshwari Yadav won silver and Bindyarani Devi will win bronze in weightlifting, the Indian contingent will aim to retain the medal in Glasgow.

The day begins in the swimming pool where Sajan Prakash will compete in the men’s 50m butterfly heats before Srihari Nataraj takes to the pool in the men’s 100m breaststroke heats. Both swimmers will be looking to secure places in the evening semi-finals. India will also be represented in athletics earlier in the day as Vishal TK and Rajesh Ramesh compete in the men’s 400m heats in hopes of advancing to the next round. Srihari Nataraj in action. India’s best medal hopes on Tuesday rest with the weightlifters. Nirupama Devi Seram will compete in the women’s 63kg final while Harjinder Kaur will compete in the women’s 69kg final later in the evening. The Indian weightlifting team has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far and will be hoping to add to its medal tally.

Athletics offers two more medal opportunities for India. Pooja Singh will compete in the women’s high jump final, while Gulveer Singh will line up in the men’s 10,000m final to challenge for a podium finish.

The boxing ring will host five crucial quarter-final bouts involving Indian fighters. Preeti Pawar kicks off her campaign against Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde in the women’s 54kg, followed by Priya Ghanghas, who takes on Scotland’s Niamh Mitchell in the women’s 60kg.

Parveen Hooda will take on England’s Sacha Hickey in the women’s 65kg quarter-final, while Jadumani Singh will take on Zambia’s Mwengo Mwale in the men’s 55kg group. Kapil Pokhariya completes India’s boxing schedule with a quarter-final clash against Scotland’s Robert McNulty in the men’s 90kg category. A win for any of the five boxers will guarantee at least a bronze medal by securing a place in the semi-finals.

India will also be represented in para swimming where Karthik Budigina and Ali Imam will compete in the men’s 50m freestyle S13 heats. If they advance, they will return later in the night to fight for the medals.

The grass court action continues as Dinesh Kumar and Navneet Singh take on the Cook Islands in the men’s doubles sectional, while Nayanmoni Saikia will be in action against Wales’ Amy Williams in the women’s singles.
