“India and Africa should look at the double trade in the current level of $ 82 billion by 2030,” said Minister of Trade and Piyush Goyal on Friday (August 29, 2025). He also called for increased cooperation in areas such as critical minerals, agriculture, technology and production.
Bidirectional trade increased from $ 56 billion from 2015–16 to $ 82 billion (Indian exports were $ 42 billion and imports was $ 40 billion) in the years 2024-25. “This is a suboptimal trade despite huge opportunities,” he said, adding, “We should look at the doubling of the store by 2030.
The numbers show that there is a huge unused potential between the two regions. “Looking at the current situation around the world, this is an ideal opportunity for us to turn to our engagement,” Mr. Goyal said at the industrial chamber event.
He also said that India could supply high -quality dairy products on Mauritius, which can help cool the inflation of this commodity in the island nation. Mr. Goyal said Africa Imports Motor Cars worth $ 20 billion and India’s share of this is only $ 2 billion.
“There is a delta opportunity in this sector,” he said he added that India could increase imports of goods such as harsh diamonds, gold, oil products and pulses. African critical minerals such as cobalt and copper can help increase the production of batteries in India.
