Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh said on Sunday (July 13, 2025) that the cake of the Kakori train carried against the British Raj will be celebrated in Lucknow.
“Kakori is on short distances of Lucknow and Lucknow has a very close relationship with this historical event. Therefore, my efforts will celebrate the centenary of the Kakori incident in the city and other places,” said Mr. Singh, who is also a member of Lok Sabha of the capital.
He spoke in the position of National PG College in Lucknow, where he introduced the statue of Chandry Bhan Guptty and also published a postage stamp.
Mr. Singh said: “In August 1925 there was an incident at a railway station near Lucknow, which shook the foundations of the British government. The revolutionaries fighting for freedom lifted the British Treasury near the Kakori railway station for freedom of India.
Revolutionaries such as Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Sachin Nath Bakshi, many of whom were arrested by the British government were also involved in the incident.
Several big leaders, such as Madan Mohan Malviya, Lala Lajpat Rai at that time stood with revolutionaries. “When the court proceedings began with the case of Kakori, Chandra Bhan Gupt stood in a court with a prominent lawyer Govind Ballabh Pant on behalf of and begged for them,” the Minister of Defense said.
“Chandra Bhan Gupt proved that he was a real patriot by using his legal title to support the country’s revolutionaries,” Singh said.
He added that since it is the centenary of the Cakori incident, he will celebrate him in Lucknow and other places in a “big way”.
On August 9, 1925, in Kakori, the Indian Freedom Warriors plundered the Treasury of the British Government to buy weapons for their revolution against the British Raj.
In 1927, Ram Prasad ‘Bismil’, Ashfaqulla Khan and Thakur Roshan Singh hung the British government to death for their involvement in the incident.
